Attorney Jon M. Byrne earned his law degree at The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law where he was also an Associate Editor for The Catholic University Law Review.  Jon received his Masters in Education and Bachelor’s Degree from St. Lawrence University.  Prior to attending law school, Jon taught elementary school for close to five years.  Jon spent over five years as an Assistant State Attorney in Florida with the 12th Judicial Circuit. While there, Jon handled thousands of cases and was lead attorney in over 30 trials both in the misdemeanor and felony divisions.  Jon’s trials included charges of Second Degree Murder, DUI Manslaughter, Armed Burglary of a Dwelling, Sexual Battery, Home Invasion Robbery, Trafficking in Cocaine, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Grand Theft, Domestic Battery, and DUI. Jon is now representing clients in civil and criminal  cases with our firm.

As an associate attorney with the firm, Catherine is responsible for handling the foreclosure defense and quiet title action caseload. She has a solid background litigating lien foreclosure actions that included practicing in federal bankruptcy court on behalf of homeowner and condominium associations. Prior to and while attending law school, Catherine was a paralegal in Michigan for almost ten years focusing primarily on civil litigation and medical malpractice insurance defense. After law school and before becoming licensed to practice law, Catherine worked for an international public accounting firm in both the federal tax and nonprofit tax departments where she specialized in international corporate tax, high wealth individual taxation and the taxation of exempt organizations. Catherine holds a “PTIN” designation with the I.R.S. and enjoys preparing tax returns for individuals and small businesses in her spare time during busy season.

Marilyn Stevenson Smith is an experienced paralegal who has worked in the areas of civil litigation, probate, estates and family law in law firms in Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Florida. Her education includes a Paralegal Certificate (with honors) from an ABA approved program, as well as B.A. and M. Ed. degrees. She is listed in Who’s Who in American Law, 6th Edition, for her work as founding president of Legal Assistants of Southeastern Connecticut, Inc. She has been an instructor for Introduction to Legal Assisting and Legal Ethic at Florida Keys Community College in Key West, FL where she resides.

Jessica Smith has been a paralegal since June 2008. She obtained her A.S. degree in Paralegal Studies from Brevard Community College and her B.S. in Criminal Justice from American Intercontinental University.  She is currently attending classes towards her MS in Child and Adolescent Psychology at Capella University.  She also volunteers with Billy Davis and A Positive Step of Monroe County to promote the “Idle Hands” Job Training Program for youth ages 16-18 and also sits on the DJJ Advisory Board, whose primary focus is on juvenile delinquency prevention within the community.

Monica Rodriguez has been in the legal field since 2002 and has been specializing in Personal Injury law for approximately 11 years.  She obtained a certificate in legal studies from Florida International University in 2002 and is currently obtaining her Associates in Arts degree. Once completed, Monica is looking forward to becoming a Certified Registered Paralegal. Monica is also fluent in Spanish.

Caroline Speyerer is the firm’s receptionist and accounts receivable clerk. She has a background in customer service, accounting, and billing. Caroline is extremely tech savvy and also speaks fluent Spanish. She is friendly, enthusiastic and always willing to help our team and our clients.

Julia has been managing our law firm since 2007. She has a strong background in Marketing, Advertising and Project Management. Julia earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication, with a minor in Marketing & Psychology from the  University of Miami . Additionally, she has a minor in Organizational Psychology from The University of  Tel Aviv, Israel.  Previously,  Julia worked at  Motorola, CBS and and brings those experiences and knowledge to our firm.  Julia continuously strives to improve our firm by implementing new policies and procedures with regards to billing, technology, administration, PR, and customer satisfaction.
